Description
Ashly Fine Rugs Presents an 18th Century Aubusson Tapestry Rug This carpet is stylistic evolution of a Classic French carpet, with strong burgundy and elegant black and soft surmauve colors rounded by Ivory fields.
This rug is dated to around the 1780s and has been restored a few times in its lifetime. There are reweavings that date back to the early 1900s and some were recent days, the original cloth backing is still on it, overall its a great piece and lots of history
Aubusson is a town on the Ceruse River in central France. It has been famed for its carpets as well as tapestries since the 15th century. Antique Aubusson rugs made in tapestry technique are among the most elegant and luxurious antique floor coverings. The true date when the production of flat woven tapestry Aubusson carpets in France began is not known.
