Description
Tabriz — the ancient city in northwest Iran that served for centuries as the Silk Road’s principal cultural crossroads — gave birth to a carpet-weaving tradition of unmatched technical refinement. The city’s weavers mastered the symmetric Turkish knot to achieve some of the highest knotting densities in all of Persian production, and the design vocabulary that emerged from Tabriz’s great ateliers — monumental medallions, courtly hunting scenes, densely scrolled Shah Abbasi fields — set the template for luxury rug aesthetics worldwide. This remarkable 13 by 19 foot antique example presents a classic Tabriz medallion composition anchored by a luminous ivory ground and accented with deep navy — both colors the product of natural dyestuffs and now possessed of the complex undertones that define authentically aged Persian carpets of the finest quality.
