This magnificent 16 by 19 foot carpet is a principal achievement of the Sultanabad Masters Collection — Ashly Fine Rugs’ own curated series of heirloom-grade weaves produced by master craftsmen working in rigorous fidelity to the centuries-old Sultanabad tradition. Every rug admitted to this collection is hand-selected by our fourth-generation experts for the quality of its handspun wool, the integrity of its natural dyeing, and the mastery of its knotwork — a standard that places these pieces in direct dialogue with the great antique Sultanabads of the 19th century while making them available to the collector as new acquisitions. The result is a body of work without equivalent in contemporary production.
This palace-sized example presents a sweeping all-over botanical field on a warm ivory ground: oversized palmettes of generous naturalistic form, organic vine scrolls of confident movement, and softly stylized leaves distributed across the field with the masterful spatial balance that defines the great Sultanabad format at its finest. At palace scale, the design reaches its full intended grandeur — the individual motifs small enough to reward close inspection, the overall composition large enough to organize and anchor a room of the most serious architectural ambitions. New, and woven to outlast generations.
