Description
Ashly Fine Rugs presents an original Antique Laristan Palace Rug circa 1910. This rug was custom-made for the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Corp. in 1910 the construction of the building was completed in 1914 and all the rugs and furniture were custom-made for this premier elaborate eight-story powerhouse headquarters. This rug was used in their executive boardroom on the 7th floor until they sold the building in the late 90s and then the building was converted to Residential condos.
The story is that when the architects drew the building up they then commissioned the rug to a local shop in Philadelphia and they then commissioned it to India, where 14 weavers sat side by side weaving this for 3 years. The pile of the rug is 3/8 inch thick it is in excellent condition with no wear spots or repairs. An excellent and timeless piece for a Great room, Ballroom, or Lobby entrance.
