Description
Vintage Kashmiri Silk Qum Rug – Salmon, Ivory and Black
The field is a soft salmon ground covered edge to edge with fine floral tracery in ivory, pale blue, green and gold. At the centre is an eight-lobed medallion worked in ivory and blue around a small floral rosette, with a matching pendant above and below it.
The four corner spandrels are pale ivory-green and filled with scrolling vines and flower heads, which sets them clearly apart from the salmon field. The main border is dark navy-black and carries large palmettes and rosettes in salmon, ivory, gold and teal, framed on both sides by narrow ivory and green guard stripes. The selvage is salmon and the fringe is ivory.
The pile is silk throughout and knotted at a high count, so the drawing stays sharp at small scale and the colours change with the light and with the direction you view the rug from.
